Stone Foundation Repair
Repointing
Mortar in the early American stone foundation is often found in a deteriorating and crumbling condition. Over time, it reverts back to sand and fails to bond. The basements become drafty as the stones shift around and the sand comes through. The cure is a deep repoint where all of the old mortar and sand is removed, and fresh mortar is flooded into the joints re-bedding and stabilizing the stones.
Underpinning
Rotten sills and floor sag can often come with a failing foundation. In many situations we are capable of repairing both. This is ideal as the sill is easier to access when some of the foundation stones are removed.

Over time, original drainage provisions fail, or do not meet new requirements. The freeze/thaw cycles in the northeast can cause tremendous pressure behind your foundation, causing a bulge that represents a weakness in the wall. Renewed Colonial can underpin the problem area and restore the foundation.

17th and 18th century New England Barns are in danger of falling into history’s oblivion. They are becoming less and less common as they are allowed to fall to the ground in decay. I believe it is imperative for us to preserve them. Early Americans built them not only for themselves, but for posterity, and we are the stewards of their superb structures. It is a special passion of Renewed Colonial to repair, restore, and preserve New England Barns.

“At its best, preservation engages the past in a conversation with the present over a mutual concern for the future.”
